Open in App
Solution

Instructions:
  • Mention the 2 ocean currents influencing the climate of the region
  • Explain how they are influencing the climate.
Solution:
Ocean currents also influence the climate of the continent.
South America is affected by two ocean currents:
  1. Warm Brazilian current
  2. Cold Peruvian current
The warm Brazilian current moves along the eastern coast of South America and it causes rainfall. This makes the climate wet throughout the year.

The cold Peruvian current which is also known as the Humboldt current moves along the Western coast of South America. This current reduces the temperature and cools down the region, keeping it dry.
Also develops hot deserts in the western part like Atacama and Patagonia desert.
