Question

Explain how the water gets extracted from the ground?

Open in App
Solution

Instructions:
  • Explain all the 6 ways
    • Borewells
    • Perennial Spring
    • Intermittent Spring or Periodic Spring
    • Hot Spring or Thermal Spring
    • Geyser
    • Artesian Well
Solution:

Borewell
A Borewell is a very long and narrow vertical passage sunk into the well with a pump to extract water . It is similar to the wells that we see around but it goes deeper than the well. This helps to draw water deep from the ground.

Perennial spring
Perennial spring is a natural waterbody that emerges from under the ground which is continuous and forever. It never stops as the aquifer that feeds this spring is elevated as it is full of water and keeps oozing out throughout the year.

Intermittent spring
Intermittent Spring is a natural source of water in several intervals of time. It does not have water all year round. Since these springs occur periodically, they are called periodic springs.

Hot springs
Hot springs are a natural source of hot water that originates from the ground. It can be seen near the volcanic regions where they absorb some of the Earth’s internal heat. These are also known as thermal springs.

Geyser
A geyser is also a source of natural hot water from the ground. It emerges from the ground as a jet of water and steam. And this happens at regular intervals or intermittently.

Artesian well
The underground water is stored between some rocks that do not have pores in it like non porous rocks. The storage area can be basin-shaped. And an artificial hole can be made to extract water from this which is known as the artesian well.
