Solution

Electric charges

  1. Electric charge is a subatomic property that causes a force of attraction or repulsion. Two types of charges exist one is a positive charge and the other is a negative charge.
  2. Two positive or two negative charges are called charges, that repel each other.
  3. One positive and other negative charge which is called unlike charges attract each other. Also charged body attracts another uncharged body by inducing an opposite charge on the uncharged body.

Why can a charged object attract an uncharged object but cannot repel it? - Quora

Explanation

  1. When the balloon is rubbed against woolen cloth it acquires negative charges.
  2. Two charged balloons possess the same charges, hence they repel each other when brought near to each other.
  3. When one of the balloons is charged and the other is uncharged, the uncharged balloon acquires charges due to the induction of charges that are opposite to the charged balloon. That is uncharged balloon acquires positive charges. As a result unlike charges form on the surface of two balloons that attract each other.
