Solution

Aquatic ecosystems are the interaction of living and nonliving beings in the aquatic habitat or water. They are of two types:
Marine ecosystem
  • The largest aquatic ecosystem on the earth covers about 70 % of the earth surface.
  • It is a type of system where the concentration of salt in water is very high.
  • They are found mostly in oceans, mangroves, salt marshes, deep sea etc.
Freshwater ecosystem
  • They cover less earth surface in comparison to the marine ecosystem.
  • They are present in the area where the concentration of salt is lower.
  • They are found in water bodies like rivers, ponds, lakes etc.
  • They are divided into two types:
  1. Lentic ecosystem - Here the water is still, it is not moving. E. g.; Lakes, ponds etc.
  2. Lotic ecosystem - Here the water is floating water, it is moving continuously. E. g.; Rivers etc.
