Open in App
Solution

The R.S. nomenclature or right hand and left-hand nomenclature are used for naming the different enantiomers of chiral compounds. The stereocenters of chiral compounds are labeled as either R or S. The substituents of the chiral compound are named in an order such as 1, 2, 3... An arrow is drawn from the substituent of highest priority to the lowest. If the arrow is in a clockwise direction, the stereocenter is labeled R, if it is counterclockwise, the stereocenter is labeled S.
