Explain the causes, symptoms and prevention of bronchitis.

Bronchitis:

1. Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchi.
2. The two large tubes that carry air from the trachea to the lungs are known as bronchi.
3. It is characterised by overgrowth and an increase in the number of cells of the seromucous gland and goblet cells lining the bronchi.

Causes:

1. It is mainly caused by an infection.
2. It may also be caused by cigarette smoking and exposure to pr to air pollutants like carbon monoxide.

Symptoms:
The common symptom is regular coughing, with thick greenish-yellow sputum which results in excessive secretion of mucus.

Prevention:
Avoiding exposure to smoke, chemicals and pollutants can prevent bronchitis.
