Open in App
Solution

Vernier calliper is an instrument that is used to measure the distance extremely accurately with error as little as0.05mm

Parts of the Vernier calliper

the various parts of the instrument is as follows

1. Main scale

2. Venire scale

3. Inner measuring jaws

4. Depth measuring prong

Least count of the instrument is calculated as

Leastcount=1M.S.TotalVernierScaleDivison

The object whose diameter is to be measured is kept in between the jaws of the instrument.

Then the reading on the main scale and the venire scale is noted.

The total reading of the scale is given as follows

T.S.R.=M.S.R.+V.S.R

Before taking measurement care should be taken to make sure that there is no manufacturing error in the device. This is done my checking the zero of the main scale should coincide with the zero of the venire scale.
