Reference: These lines are from the poem "Snake" written by D.H Lawrence.
Context: The poet says these words while expressing that he had learnt about venomous snakes, which are earth-golden in colour.
Explanation: D.H Lawrence had a strange visitor on a hot sunny afternoon. It was a long golden yellow snake that came to quench its thirst. The poet was afraid to kill it but his inner voice of education suggested him to kill it as golden yellow snake were poisonous.
Comment: The accursed voices of education mislead man.
