Solution

Turgor Pressure:

  1. The pressure exerted by a fluid in a cell that pushes the cell membrane against the cell wall is called turgor pressure.
  2. When a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, it becomes turgid (fully expanded condition).
  3. Due to turgidity, the water in the cell creates turgor pressure.
  4. Turgor pressure is maintained by osmosis.
  5. It causes the cell wall to expand during growth and maintains the rigidity of the cell.
  6. Turgidity is very important for plant cells as the opening and closing of stomata are determined by the turgidity of the guard cells.
