Turgor pressure:

  1. Turgidity is the condition of distension or swelling of cells, tissue, or organ.
  2. It is essential for the proper functioning of cells and maintenance of the shape of soft organs.
  3. Turgidity occurs due to endosmosis or osmotic entry of water into cells.
  4. The swollen protoplast begins to press the cell wall outwardly causing it to become stretched.
  5. The pressure with which the swelling protoplast presses the cell wall outwardly is called turgor pressure.
