Coleorhiza
The
coleorhiza
or root sheath is a layer of tissue that surrounds the
inner roots of
the seed and
prevents monocotyledonous plants.
Coleorhiza is the
first
part
that remains on
the
ground
and
develops from seeds that are not green
in color.
Function of Coleorhiza:
In some plants, the radicle (embryonic root)in the seed is protected by the Coleorhiza.
During germination, Coleorhiza acts as a defense layer for the root and the root cap.
