Question

Explain the hybridization, geometry and magnetic property of [CoF6]3 on the basis of valence bond theory. [Z of Co = 27]

Open in App
Solution

The central Co atom is sp3d2 hybridised. It forms octahedral complex with paramagnetic behavior due to presence of 4 unpaired electrons. It forms outer orbital or high spin or spin free complex as it utilizes outer 4d orbitals in sp3d2 hybridisation.
