  • Before the green revolution,
    • Increase in population-Due to the increase in population there was a shortage in food grains.
    • The 2 consecutive droughts that hit India led to a shortage of food.
  • It introduced:
    • High yielding variety of seeds-which are made artificially and have a high resistance to pests.
    • Irrigation facilities
    • Loans are given to the farmers for cultivating the land
    • Electricity to operate borewells
    • Use of machines
    • Use of fertilizers and pesticides
  • All of these helped the farmers to increase their production and to raise their income.
    • The impacts of the green revolution.
      • We became self-sufficient in food production
      • Due to this we no longer have to depend on other countries
      • And most importantly it resulted in excess output which is stored for the future and can also be used to export it to other countries.
