Question

Explain the inter conversion of the three states of matter in terms of force of attraction of the particles and kinetic energy of the particles.

Open in App
Solution

The interconversion of states of matter

(a)In terms of forces of attraction-

The forces of attraction decrease as the solid changes to a liquid and then to gases.

Solid⇢Liquid⇢Gases.

Hence, The force of attraction decreases.

(b)In terms of kinetic energy-

Kinetic energy will increase when solid changes to liquids than to a gaseous state because particles will absorb energy and kinetic energy increases.

Solid⇢Liquid⇢gases

Therefore the Kinetic energy increases.
