Explain the mechanical methods of birth control?

The birth control methods are used to control the over population and to prevent the sexually transmitted diseases. There are different types of birth control methods such as:
  • Mechanical methods of birth control: By using a condom, diaphragm, cervical cap and Intrauterine Device or IUD.
  • Condom: It is a device used by males. These are rubber sheaths used to cover erect penis which prevents semen from flowing out in the vagina and prevent pregnancy.
  • Diaphragm and cervical cap: Used by females, they are fitted on the cervix so that sperms do not gain entry into the uterus and the fallopian tube.
  • IUD: Intrauterine devices are plastic or metal devices placed inside the uterus by the doctor. Loop, copper-T, shield etc are different types of IUD. They prevent implantation of the ovum inside the uterus, thus preventing pregnancy in the woman.
