Reaction of acetaldehyde with benzaldehyde in presence of $N a O H$ -
$C H_{3} - C H O (Acetaldehyde) N a O H - --- \to - C H_{2} - C H O$
$- C H_{2} - C H O + C_{6} H_{5} - C H O N a O H - --- \to C_{6} H_{5} - - O | C H - C H_{2} - C H O$
$C_{6} H_{5} - - O | C H - C H_{2} - C H O H^{+} - - \to C_{6} H_{5} - O H | C H - C H_{2} - C H O$
$C_{6} H_{5} - O H | C H - C H_{2} - C H O Δ - --- \to - H_{2} O C_{6} H_{5} = C H - C H O$
The reaction is an example of cross aldol condensation.
