Explain the modes of reproduction in living organisms.
There are two modes by which animals reproduce. These are: (i) Sexual reproduction, and (ii) Asexual reproduction.
(i) Sexual reproduction is a form of reproductionwhere two morphologically distinct types of specialized reproductive cells called gametes fuse together, involving a female's large ovum (or egg) and a male's smaller sperm. Each gamete contains half the number of chromosomes of normal cells.
(ii) Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproductionby which offspring arise from a single organism, and inherit the genes of that parent only; it does not involve the fusion of gametes and almost never changes the number of chromosomes.
