Question

Explain the phenomena of artificial selection with the help of an example?

Open in App
Solution

Farmers and breeders had been using the idea of selection to cause major changes in the features of their plants and animals over the course of decades. Farmers and breeders allowed only the plants and animals with desirable characteristics to reproduce, causing the evolution of farm stock. This process is called artificial selection because people (instead of nature) select which organisms to get to reproduce.
Diagram shows example of artificial selection. Kale and cabbage along with broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, collard greens, and kohlrabi, and several other vegetables all come from the exact same plant species: Brassica oleracea
