Explain the position of metals, non-metals and metalloids in modern periodic table.

Solution

Elements toward left side of the periodic table are metals. When we move from left to right across a period, metallic property of element tends to decrease thus, non metals are on the right side of the periodic table. However, some elements show some properties of metals as well as those of non-metals. These are called metalloids. Metalloids come between metals and non metals.
