The liberated pollen grains are transferred to the receptive surface of the carpel as a process which is known as pollination. On the stigma, the pollen grain absorbs water and swell within a few minutes. It releases some factors which determine whether the pollen grain will germinate on the stigma or not. After the recognition, a pollen tube is formed and makes its way inside. Gradually the vegetative and generative nucleus carried by the pollen tube enters the stigma. These are the post-pollination events.
