Solution: The powers of the President are mentioned below:
  • Legislative power
A bill passed by the parliament will become a law only when the President signs it.
  • Executive power
The president appoints the prime minister, other ministers and high dignitaries.
  • Judicial power:
The President can grant pardon or reduce the sentence of a criminal serving the sentence of life imprisonment
  • Financial power
The president lays down the Annual Financial Statement, i.e. the Union budget, before the parliament. Moreover, a money bill can be introduced in parliament only with the president's recommendation.
  • Emergency power
The President has the extraordinary power to declare an emergency to deal with situations such as national emergency Article 352, Constitutional emergency Article 356, and Financial emergency Article 360.
