Solution

Defining centrifugation method

Centrifugation is the process of separating suspended particles of a substance from a liquid by churning it at high speed.

Principle of centrifugation method

  1. It works on the principle of difference in the densities of the components.
  2. The mixture is placed in a centrifuge machine which spins at a high speed for a period of time.
  3. The machine generates a force that acts on the heavier suspended particles, causing them to fall to the bottom of the test tube.
  4. Because it is lighter, the clear liquid rises to the top of the test tube. After centrifugation, decantation can be used to separate the two layers.
