Structure of Hippocampus :

  1. Hippocampus is commonly known as the sea horse.
  2. Sea horses are tiny fishes, named after their horse-shaped head.
  3. It is the only monogamous fish that can mate for life.
  4. In this species, the male bears the unborn young ones.
  5. They lay dozens of eggs in the brood pouch.
  6. They are found in shallow tropical and temperate waters.
  7. They swim in unique upright swimming.
  8. They have dorsal fins that help them to move vertically.
  9. To move up or down, they adjust the volume of air present in the tiny pockets known as “ swim bladder ”.
  10. They have a pair of eyes, which moves independently of each other.
  11. They have bony scales all over their body.
  12. They have a prehensile tail.
