Question

Explain the term conduction.

Solution

Conduction:

  1. Every matter has a definite form as well as precise energy at the macroscopic level which is quantified in terms of the thermodynamic energy function.
  2. Energy function at equilibrium is characterized by a measurable scalar quantity called temperature.
  3. The energy exchanged by the particles constituted from a region of greater local temperature to a region with lower local temperature is better known as heat.
  4. One of the modes of transfer of this form of energy is called conduction. The study of conduction helps in understanding the fundamental science as well as mathematics.
  5. Conduction can be defined as the process by which heat is transferred from one body to another when they are in contact with one another.
  6. An example of conduction is: heat energy transferring from a hot iron to our clothes when brought in contact.
