(a) Implantation: The embryo enters the uterus at the stage of the blastocyst and becomes attached to the wall of the uterus, where it is to perform its subsequent development. This attachment of the blastocyst to the uterine wall is known as implantation.
(b) Placenta: It is a temporary organ built up of maternal and foetal tissues jointly. It serves for the transport of nutrients from the tissues of the mother with those of the embryo as well as the exchange of gases between the tissues of the two.
