Aim: To prove that the hydrogen gas is combustible but does not support combustion.

Material Required: A gas jar filled with hydrogen gas and a burning taper

Procedure: hold a gas jar filled with hydrogen gas in an inverted position and introduce a burning taper in it.

Observation:

• You will observe that the hydrogen gas burns with a Pop sound and a blue flame are seen at the mouth of the jar.
• You will also observe that the taper gets extinguished.

Conclusion: This shows that hydrogen gas itself burns but doesn't support the burning of the taper
