Explain why, a nail has a pointed tip.

Pointed ends occupy a very small area , as a result of which the pressure ( = force / area ) on the walls/ objects due to the applied force is more and pins / nails can easily pierce.

The area of the pointed end of the nail is much smaller than that of its head. The same force produces a sufficient pressure to push the pointed end of the nail into the wodden plank
