  1. Potential Energy is defined as the energy of a body due to its position.
  2. We know, P.E.=mgh (where m is mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity and h is height from the ground).
  3. Now as we have seen, potential energy is directly proportional to height of object from the ground.
  4. The more will be the height of object from the ground, the more will it possess potential energy.
  5. So, axe is raised to some height to store some potential energy in the axe and then struck to cut the log.
