Question

Factorise
$$16a^2-144$$

Solution

$$16a^2-144$$  can be written as $$(4a)^2 -  (12)^2$$
By using the formula $$ a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)$$
Now solving for the above equation
$$ (4a)^2 - (12)^2$$ =
(4a+12) (4a-12)$$= $$4(a+3) 4(a-3)$$= 16(a+3) (a-3)$$
