Question

__________ fails to play a role in water movement in tall trees

Open in App
Solution

Root pressure fails to p!ay a role in water movement in tall trees.

  • When water enters a cell, the cell swells up and becomes turgid.
  • When all the root cells are in a turgid state as they take in water from the soil, a pent-up/built-up pressure is created, known as root pressure,
  • Root pressure develops in the xylem of roots mainly in cortical cells due to the inflow of water.
  • It pushes the water and minerals in the upward direction.
  • While this force is sufficient for the transportation of water in smaller plants, it isn't sufficient for taller plants.
