Elephantiasis :
Elephantiasis or filariasis is caused by Wuchereria bancrofti, a filarial worm. The pathogens are transmitted to a healthy person through the bite of an infected female Culex mosquito. They usually affect the lymphatic vessels and are characterised by the swelling of the legs, scrotum and other parts of the body. This is commonly called as elephantiasis due to its resemblance to a leg of an elephant.
