Fill in the blanks to make the statement true.

A rectangle and a square have the same perimeter (see the figure)

(a) The area of the rectangle is ______ .

(b) The area of the square is ________ .

(a) Given, length of rectangle = 6 units

and breadth of rectangle = 2 units

$\therefore$ Area of a rectangle = Length $\times$Breadth = 6$\times$2 = 12 sq units

(b) According to question,

Perimeter of square = Perimeter of rectangle

$\Rightarrow$ 4$\times$Side = 2$\times$(Length + Breadth)

$\Rightarrow$ 4$\times$Side = 2$\times$(6 + 2)

$\Rightarrow$ 4$\times$Side = 2$\times$8

$\Rightarrow$ 4$\times$Side = 16

$\Rightarrow \frac{4\times Side}{4}=\frac{16}{4}$ [dividing both sides 4 ]

$\therefore$ Side = 4 units

Now, area of square = Side$\times$Side = 4$\times$4 = 16 sq units
