Biochemical role of thyroxine is to stimulate oxidative metabolism in the cells. Lack of this thyroid hormone slows down metabolism in cells and hence mobilization of fats and carbs decrease. Thus it becomes difficult for a person suffering from hypothyroidism to lose weight.
