Diabetes insipidus results from a deficiency of vasopressin (ADH) whereas that of diabetes mellitus, insulin. Vasopressin is a pituitary hormone and patients suffering from DI do not have glucose in urine. However, insulin is a pancreatic hormone and the patients of DM have glucose in their urine.
