Question

Find the angle at which the normal to the curve: x=a(cosθ+θsinθ),y=a(sinθθcosθ) at any point θ is incline to xaxis.

Open in App
Solution

we have,

dydx=dydθdθdx=tanθ= slope of tangent

Therefore slope of normal to the curve =cotθ=tan(90+θ)

Now equation of normal to the curve [ya(sinθθcosθ)]=cosθsinθ(xa(cosθ+asinθ))

xcosθ+ysinθ=a(1)

Now distance from (0,0) to xcosθ+ysinθ=a is

distance (d)=0+0a1=a
