Find the area of a right triangle whose hypotenuse is 17 cm and one of the sides which forms a right angle is 8 cm.

Let the other side be x

By Pythagoras theorem:-

$(17{)}^2=(8{)}^2+x^2$

$\Rightarrow x^2=225$

$\Rightarrow x=15$

Area $=\frac{1}{2}$(base) (height)

$=\frac{1}{2}\left(15\right)\left(8\right)=60c{m}^2$.
