Question

Find the centroid of a triangle, whose vertices are 3,-5,-7,4 and 10,2.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Accumulate all the given information in systematic order.

Let A,B and C be the vertices of the triangle whose coordinates are 3,-5,-7,4 and 10,2 respectively.

Now, we know that the coordinates of the centroid of a triangle are;

x1+x2+x33,y1+y2+y33,

Step 2: Finding the centroid of the triangle:

Here

x1=3,y1=-5,x2=-7,y2=4,x3=10andy3=-2

By putting the values in the above formula, we get;

Centroid of the triangle

=3+(-7)+103,-5+4+(-2)3

=63,-33=2,-1

Hence, the coordinates of centroid are 2,-1
