LH (Luteinizing hormone) is secreted from anterior lobe of pituitary gland. Increase in LH levels cause ovulation i.e. release of ovum from mature follicle. After ovulation, a yellow body called corpus luteum is formed from the granulosa cells of ruptured (ovulated) follicle. This is called luteinisation. Corpus luteum acts as an endocrine gland and secretes progesterone which maintains inner lining of uterus and makes it compatible for implantation.
