Question

Find the equation of line whose sum of intercepts on coordinate-axes is 10 and x-intercept exceeds y-intercept by 4.

Open in App
Solution

Given,
x-intercept+y-intercept = 10 ..........(1)
Also, x-intercept = y-intercept + 4
x-intercept - y-intercept = 4 .........(2)
Solving 1 and 2, we get,
xintercept=7 and yintercept=3
Thus, equation of required line is
x7+y3=1

3x+7y=21
