Question

Find the equation of the line which passes through the point (–4, 3) with slope .

Open in App
Solution

The point through which the line passes is ( 4,3 ) and the slope of the line is 1 2 .

The formula for the equation of a non-vertical line having slope m and passing through the point ( x 0 , y 0 ) is given by,

( y y 0 )=m( x x 0 )(1)

Substitute the values of ( x 0 , y 0 ) as ( 4,3 ) and slope m as 1 2 in equation (1).

( y3 )= 1 2 ( x+4 ) 2( y3 )=( x+4 ) 2y6=x+4 x2y+10=0

Thus, the equation of line passing through the point ( 4,3 ) and the slope of the line is 1 2 is x2y+10=0.
