Question

Find the molar mass of calcium carbonate by calculation.

Open in App
Solution

Molar mass- The amount of molecules or atoms or compounds present in one mole of a substance is given by Molar mass.

SI unit for Molar mass is g/mol.

Formula to calculate the molar mass of Calcium Carbonate CaCO3

MolecularmassoftheCaCO3=AtomicmassoftheCa+AtomicmassoftheC+3(atomicmassoftheoxygen)

  • Atomic Mass of Calcium=40g/mol
  • Atomic Mass of Carbon = 12g/mol
  • Atomic Mass of Oxygen = 16g/mol

The molecular mass of CaCO3=(40+12+3×16) g/mol

Molecular mass of CaCO3=100g/mol

Hence, the formula mass of Calcium Carbonate CaCO3 is 100g/mol
