Given the length and breadth of the rectangle are $12$ cm and $5.5$ cm.

Then its perimeter is $2(12+5.5)=2\times 17.5=35$ cm.

Let $a$ be the side of the square which is having same perimeter as that of the rectangle.

Then we've,

$4a=35$

or, $a=8.75$

So side of the square is $8.75$ cm.
