$The additive inverse of a number is definrd as the number which when added to it yeilds zero . Therefore, the additive inverse of \frac{8}{9} is - \frac{8}{9} . Now, - \frac{8}{9} + (- \frac{15}{18}) = - \frac{8}{9} - \frac{15}{18} = - \frac{16}{18} - \frac{15}{18} [L . C . M of 9, 18 is 18] = \frac{- 16 - 15}{18} = - \frac{31}{18} .$
