$5 - x^{3} + 2 x^{2}$
Put $x = - 1$
$= 5 - (- 1)^{3} + 2 (- 1)^{2}$
$= 5 - (- 1) + 2 (1)$
$= 5 + 1 + 2$
$= 8$
when $x = - 1, 5 - x^{3} + 2 x^{2} = 8$ .
