Question

Find the value of k:
If α and β are the zeros of the polynomial x26x+k such that 3α+2β=20

Open in App
Solution

Given,
x26x+k
Where,
α+β=ba=61=6
αβ=ca=k1=k
We have,
3α+2β=20
=>α+2α+2β=20
=>α+2(α+β)=20
=>α+2(6)=20
=>α=2012
=>α=8
Putting the value in equation as α is the zero of the polynomial,we get,
x26x+k
=(8)26(8)+k
=6448+k
=16+k
=>k=16
