$3 x - k y = 8$

Put $(1, - 1)$ in it

$3 + k = 8$

$k = 5$

Another point on this $3 x - 5 y = 8$

can be $(6, 2)$

$= 3 \times 6 - 5 \times 2$

$= 18 - 10 = 8$
