Solution: 0.5 Mark each

(i)p(x)=x2+x+k

p(1)=0 (Using Remainder Theorem)

p(1)=12+1+k=0

1+1+k=0

k=2


(ii)p(x)=2x2+kx+2

p(1)=0 (Using Remainder Theorem)

p(1)=2(1)2+k(1)+2=0

2+k+2=0

k=22
