x + y = 12
⇒ y = 12 - x ...(1)
Also, x - y = 2
By putting the value of y from eq (1)
x - (12 - x) = 2
⇒ 2x = 10
⇒ x = 5
⇒ y = 12 - 5 = 7

So, the values of x and y are 5 and 7, respectively.
