Let a be the common root of the given equations then,

a2λa21=0 and a23λa+35=0

Subtracting second from the first, we get,

2λa56=0
a=562λ

a=28λ

Putting this value in equation 1, we get,
(28λ)2λ×28λ21=0

λ2=16
λ=±4
