Personal selling involves oral presentation of message in the form of conversation with one or more prospective customers for the purpose of making sales. It is a personal form of communication. Companies appoint salespersons to contact prospective buyers and create awareness about the product and develop product preferences with the aim of making sale.
Four qualities of a good salesman:
Good personality: The salesman should have a good personality meaning he should be attractive and should have a pleasing voice and ability to draw attention.
Good communication skill: Communication is an asset for the salesman. He should be able to speak freely and clearly and should have good listening skills.
Proper knowledge of products: It is important for the salesman to have proper knowledge regarding the products which he has to offer. This enables him to be confident and able to demonstrate the products easily.
Psychological skills: He should be intelligent and have a good imagination. Should be able to guess what is on people's minds, his mind should be alert and should have self confidence.
